Brunch the Pan Asian Way

The iconic Thai Pavilian at the Vivanta by Taj in Hyderabad has launched an unusual Sunday brunch called Som Tam after the famous Thai Raw Papaya Salad. Serving pan Asian food only, it comes at a very pocket friendly price of Rs 1399 all inclusive. If you like swimming, for Rs 100 extra per person, you can also spend an hour by the hotel’s poolside before, during or after your meal. This package includes alcoholic beverages such as beer, rum, vodka and whisky.

With Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Korean cuisines, the dishes are brought to your table and you can eat to your heart’s content while you catch up with family or friends.

The food is simply divine and we recommend: the sushi most definitely, Som Tam, the raw papaya salad and Gado Gado, the Indonesian salad of steamed veggies with boiled eggs and a peanut dressing. The Hot and Sour soup – both veg and non-veg versions, Prawn Dim Sum, Tahu Bakar which are grilled crisp tofu pockets, Chor Siu Pork – roasted pork cooked over charcoal; Ca Nuong, the Vietnamese  roasted fish and the Tempura Prawns.

From the mains, the dishes not to be missed are the Water chestnut and Cashewnut in a spicy gravy, the Suan La Tu Dou Si – Beijing style hot and sour potato strings and the Thai Green curry, the signature dish of the Thai Pavilion.

But, like I always do, I would advise you to do the same – leave room for dessert. Executive Chef Arun Reddy has reinvented the Water chestnut in Coconut Milk to make a cheesecake out of it using the same ingredients. Creamy, melt in the mouth and incredibly light; it was the best kept secret of the entire menu. There are other desserts too on the menu for those who like a variety.

Any which way you look at it, this brunch is high on taste and value for money. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
